Free MIDI player for DOS and Linux with AdLib support
0. Contents
This is the documentation of fmdrv-1.0.7.
1. Purpose
This program plays MIDI files and converts MIDI files to S3M format.
It works in Linux and perhaps in MS-DOS too.
1.1. MIDI-player
Play standard MIDI (and RMI) files using
OPL3 or OSS MIDI (MPU-401 in DOS).
If you have a Sound Blaster compatible, this program might in some cases
be a better choice than TiMiDity. At least if you like the "AdLib" sound :)
1.2. Converter
Converts MIDI files to MidiS3M format.
MidiS3M
is a S3M format extension that adds information
to instruments so that they can be played with a MIDI device.
1.3. Compatibility
It works in Linux.
Problems you may experience:
- Too slow playing if your system has heavy load
- No OPL2 support if your installation was non-SUID
2. History
These source files, their structure and/or compatibility does not
represent my programming skills today. This program has been
written during many years, without first a slightest idea
of porting to Linux or any other sys than DOS. So, DOS
program this is. Was. Originally. And is still. The DOS
-specific sources are not here, however. They are
somewhere on my pages.
If you have questions or suggestions,
talk to me.
